Gurruwiling Eclipse Festival
Manymuk Eclipse Festival.
Big thanks to all involved.
Photos, videos and credits coming shortly.
Ma.
The Yolŋu peoples of Ramingining and Gurruwiling welcome you to an eclipse festival like no other.
This is not only an opportunity to watch one of the most spectacular phenomenon in the natural world, it is also an invitation to participate in a profound ceremony of deep spiritual meaning.
You are invited to not only watch the eclipse, but to also participate by dancing in a ceremony to heal and to celebrate unity under the back drop of a total solar eclipse occurring at sunrise.
For the Yolŋu people of Arnhem Land, the universe, and all within it, is divided by a sacred dichotomy; Yirritja and Dhuwa. The sun is Dhuwa and the moon is Yirritja. The coming together of sun and moon in a total solar eclipse represents the unity of these two moieties. Hence, this astronomical event is highly significant.
On the 14th of November 2012 the sun and the moon will be joined in an eclipse.
Over 4 days and 3 nights you will learn about the amazing Yolŋu culture, be entertained by Indigenous and non-indigenous performers and experience this once in a life time opportunity to share the total solar eclipse by celebrating the diversity of the arts and cultures of the Northern Territory and beyond in one of the most majestic landscapes of the Top End.
There will be two stages operating at the Festival.
Central to the Festival will be a Buŋgul (ceremony) area in front of the Gurruwiling Stage.
The Gurruwiling Stage will be the central ceremonial and performance space of the Festival. It will also be the main viewing space of the Eclipse.
The Luŋgurrma Stage (North Wind) will highlight a range of collaborative alternative projects between Yolŋu & Balanda artists.
With a limited number of tickets available and a large number of locals attending, this will be an intimate event, an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

12 Canoes
Gurruwiling is a large wetland (700 sq km) south and east of Ramingining and is the location where the movie 10 Canoes, and the website 12 Canoes were filmed.
12 Canoes is a must see website for anyone interested in Gurruwiling or the 'swamp people' from that area.
This track was written by Ronny Garrawarra from Elcho Island for Gurruwiling Eclipse. More info soon.
